- Stroke order and shapes: KanjiVG, © Ulrich Apel, CC BY-SA 3.0. The app icon is drawn from its 字.
- Kanji meanings and readings: KANJIDIC2, and word meanings: JMdict, © the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group. These files are used in conformance with the Group's licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).
- Readings per kanji: JmdictFurigana (CC BY-SA 4.0); JMdict in JSON via jmdict-simplified (CC BY-SA 4.0).
- JLPT levels: Jonathan Waller's JLPT Resources (CC BY), mapped to JMdict by yomitan-jlpt-vocab (CC BY-SA 4.0), and via kanji-data (MIT). The lists are unofficial: the JLPT has not published any since 2010.
- Example sentences: Tatoeba and its contributors, including the Tanaka Corpus, CC BY 2.0 FR. Words with kanji not taught yet are shown in hiragana.

The source code is open source under the MIT licence. The app's data (curriculum, kanji data and icons) is derived from the sources above and is available under CC BY-SA 4.0; see DATA-LICENSE.md for details.
The name is a nod to the suckless.org philosophy; this project is not affiliated with suckless.org.
